Bubblegum is very much a metaphor for a strong connection that eventually pops
— Sky Brown AKA Everlynx

Sky Brown AKA Everlynx is a profoundly talented artist. His innovative vision combined with an affinity for music makes his work endlessly captivating. Sky’s music fuses the melancholic beauty of dream pop with the vulnerability of electronic folk, all marinated in the magic of a loop pedal. Sky has a rare ability to weave a tapestry of sound that listeners can’t help but get completely tangled in.

‘Bubblegum’ is the first single from his new record which explores a whole field of haunting soundscapes. The song is instantly interesting and mysteriously relatable. Sky’s music emulates a similar quality to James Blake, King Krule and Washed Out yet his music is somehow completely fresh. Bubblegum is simultaneously sad yet comforting, sexy yet scary and above all- dripping with depth.

Like most powerful art, this song was born out of conflict. Sky shared that “I went through a really painful breakup recently. The lyrics are very much related to the last night we spent together - everything was really uncertain, but I wanted to cherish that last night and hoped morning never came because it would mean everything would be different. Bubblegum is very much a metaphor for a strong connection that eventually pops.”

This video is nothing shy of short film award winning worthy and it only elongates the magnitude of the track. It was directed by Sky’s long time friend Darcy Touhey and shot at Vancouver’s iconic Ironworks. Darcy is a writer and director with years of experience. He expressed that “shooting bubblegum was an absolute blast! The cast, Coco Klein and Kieran Nelson were both amazing and it was a great pleasure to collaborate with them. They brought the most costumes to the shoot than I've ever seen and probably spent half the day just trying different outfits on. It was fantastic. It was a hectic shoot considering it was all one location but with the help of DOP Trevor Lang we pushed through and got what we needed. We had a super small crew due to both budget and covid concerns but everyone worked super hard to bring this to life.

The pastel pink visual poem is such a captivating body of work that showcases the small crew’ diverse talent. Sky shared “ I wanted to bring to life a visual representation of the melancholic instrumentation of the song and explore that through the pastel pink aesthetic of bubblegum.”  It is a true victory when an artistic dream becomes a fully fleshed reality that everybody gets to experience. “Bubblegum” has brought a new level of sonic and aesthetic beauty into this world which is exactly what it needs right now.
