Sending Summer off in Style-East Van Block Party.

The wildly ambitious Tom Van Deursen of Small Town Artillery and The Boom Booms has once again turned his dreams into reality. His latest dream is coming in the form of the first annual East Van Block Party. Taking place in the alley behind Suna Studios’ The Rockery, and featuring a handful of local talent as well as food trucks, dab trucks, beer gardens and a soccer tournament.

Featuring local staples The Wooden Horsemen, Old Soul Rebel, Kyle Vaughan and Tom’s own - Small Town Artillery, this free event is shaping up to be quite the party. Bring the kids, bring the dogs and come dance and drink your summer blues away. Partial proceeds from the festivities will go to support Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Charity.

The fact that the city gave the go ahead is a huge boon to a local arts community often struggling to find support. It shows the no-fun city moniker is a dated ideal and perhaps this new administration will actually consider nurturing its deeply talented music scene. With this party sure to be a hit, I’m hopeful that we can see more events like these start to pop up over the years.
