Redwoods-Daybreaker

The Vancouver based Redwoods release their marvel of a debut record-Daybreaker. The fully fleshed album is absurdly impressive, especially considering it is their first. It is a rock and roll opus that travels through diverse emotions. The record encompasses everything you want in a contemporary album.  It features reverberating guitar tones, passionate vocals, vulnerable lyrics and resounding drums. It takes you on a sonic walk through the long-term friendship of the members and the emotional endurance that went into the album. Two songs were recorded at Beatlab Studios with producer Tommy Mac. The other six were with the renowned Garth Richardson. The production level is extraordinary, you can hear every astute detail.

They pull inspiration from an eclectic range of rockers from Jimi Hendrix to Big Wreck. The band all met in high school in North Vancouver and started playing music together. Their band was originally called The Flying Fish Mongers but decided to change it to Redwoods as they “got tired of people laughing at their name”. Daybreaker includes the themes of growing up, learning from the past and aspiring towards doing great things. There is an uncompromising sincerity shared amongst each band member. They are humble people with sharp talent, this unusual dichotomy translates well in their sound. Daybreaker is an excellent introduction to this generously skilled band. The album grips you immediately and doesn’t let you go, it is now available on all streaming platforms.
